Arguably, no other source of heat creates a more pleasant, atmospheric mood than the tiled stove. Especially in the wet and cold transition period, it is not only the special, typical warmth of the stove and the smells and the crackling of burning wood, but also the memory of times gone by which results in the unique cosiness. Connection to tradition, nativeness and local customs – the familiarity of tradition is at least as important for the feeling of well-being as warmth itself. Tiled stoves have developed in a very positive manner, and they are the result of innovation, state-of-the-art technology, and the knowledge and talent of experienced master tiled stove-builders.

The tiles of the Sommerhuber ceramic factory, which enjoys a long tradition, are made in cuting edge surroundings. The original handcraft still plays the most important part. Each tile is individually cast, made, glazed, and burned within 36 long hours. Tiles have been manufactured in our factory in Steyr since 1491. Our knowledge has been passed on and improved from generation to generation. Christian Sommerhuber says: „This way, our tiled stoves combine history and the future.“ Without losing the charm of authenticity, tiles allow a maximum of comfort today: While it often took hours to heat up an old, thick-walled tiled stove, the new generation of tiles gets warm within half an hour and then dispenses warmth for about twelve hours.

The effort of heating is much smaller now. Once the wood is inside and the tiled stove’s door is closed, the tiled stove handles everything by itself, thanks to the automatic combustion control. Modern construction methods ensure that there is a minimum of ash residue. The remaining wood ash is a valuable and sought-after fertiliser for the garden or flower pots.

Given these qualities, it is hardly surprising that tiled stove heating is no longer exclusively loved by romantics.
